Standing between the two speakers, sound and word merge into a state of uncertainty. Annihilation evokes questions of one's paralysis. The work renders language as material, echoing its own dialogue between presence and disappearance. Bearing names in dead Latin, warped botanics link the act of taxonomy to loss. Through this linguistic gesture, the pieces meditate on the preservation of language and the quiet beauty that persists in the final moments of life.
Botanicals cast domestic space as a site of transformation, a heterotopia where the familiar and the sacred converge. Sewn Magnolia leaves invoke the strength of Shibari, as a mapping of language falls dormant in its original medium, and reconstitutes into newfound forms. Repetition parlays into ritual, and ritual into religion, until what was once uninhabitable comes to be known as home.
